Apply Now!Becoming a School on Wheels’ tutor is designed to build a match with a student based on your skills, personality and your volunteer preferences. Each match is coordinated by a School on Wheels’ professional staff member who checks in with volunteers, children and parents regularly and is always available to answer questions.
Here are the quick and easy steps to become a School on Wheels' volunteer:
Step 1 – Apply (Must use Explorer 5.5 browser or higher) Complete our brief online application form (this can also be printed and faxed to us)
Step 2 – Fingerprint Background Check Download and complete a Request for Live Scan Service form and to find a Live Scan location near you. Download the form, livescan locations, or read our LiveScan page. PLEASE NOTE - We are now offering livescan service on site at many of our orientations in LA and Long Beach.
Step 3 – Orientation Training Attend one of our mandatory group orientation tutor trainings read more or click here to see when and where our orientations are scheduled and to reserve a seat.
Step 4 – Matching As soon as you have attended an orientation, completed your fingerprint and background check, and we have heard back from your references, we will work with you to review the homeless children in your area who need a Tutor and find the best fit for you. Depending on your tutoring availability, and the kind of child you'd like to work with, matching may go very quickly or take some time. Making the right match is important to our commitment to form lasting relationships.
