Thank you for your patience and we apologize for the inconvenience Becoming a School on Wheels’ tutor is designed to build a match with a student based on your skills, personality and your volunteer preferences. Each match is coordinated by a School on Wheels’ professional staff member who checks in with volunteers, children and parents regularly and is always available to answer questions Here are the quick and easy steps to become a School on Wheels' Volunteer:
Complete our brief online application form (this can also be printed and faxed to us).
Check out our Event Calendar for our upcoming Orientation dates and RSVP online. PLEASE NOTE: We are now offering Live Scan Service at all of our Tutor Orientations for $35.
After attending the Orientation, you must attend our Tutor Training which will focus on your role as a Tutor. Click here for more information.
As soon as you have attended the orientation and training, completed your fingerprint and background check, and we have heard back from your references, we will work with you to review the homeless children in your area who need a Tutor and find the best fit for you. Depending on your tutoring availability, and the kind of child you'd like to work with, matching may go very quickly or take some time. Making the right match is important to our commitment to form lasting relationships. If you have any questions about our application process, please read our FAQ’s If you would like more information, please do not hesitate to contact us: (213) 896-9200 or email Ryan Locante, our Operations Coordinator: rlocante (at) schoolonwheels.org.
