Unique among school subjects, math concepts must be learned sequentially in order for them to make sense. Many homeless students have missed crucial lessons and continue to fall further behind, and almost all School on Wheels students need help with math during tutoring sessions. Yet teaching math can be daunting for tutors, too. In this workshop, Anita Weir will discuss ways to help identify your student’s ‘math break,’ while also providing tips and techniques to make math fun for both you and your student. Increasing the ‘fun factor’ during tutoring sessions will keep your student engaged and help eliminate learning gaps.
