School on Wheels connects students and families experiencing homelessness with caring volunteer tutors who provide one-on-one homework help, consistent academic support, and encouragement.

Our trained volunteer tutors meet with students weekly to work through homework, build core skills in reading and math, and keep learning on track. Tutoring is available both in person — at shelters, transitional housing, or other community locations — and online, so your child can keep getting support even if your family relocates. Sessions are one-on-one, meaning your child gets individual attention and a consistent, encouraging adult who’s invested in their success.

Homework help is just the beginning. Students also receive backpacks and school supplies to start the year prepared, access to books and educational materials, technology like laptops and hot spots, and referrals to other community support services.

School on Wheels serves children and youth in grades K-12 who are experiencing homelessness. Families, shelters, and case managers can request a volunteer tutor for a student, and we work to match each child with a tutor who can meet with them consistently.
