Online Workshop: Making Connections: The 2017 Summer Program

This online workshop is open to both active tutors as well as tutors completing our application process. The workshop, however, does not substitute for the mandatory in-person Tutor Training required of new applicants. Please refer to our event calendar to register for a Tutor Training.

Join School on Wheels staff to learn about our exciting summer program. Studies have shown that learning how to make personal connections to books strengthens reading comprehension skills and may enable students to read beyond their grade level. This 8-week program is designed to target literacy skills in all grades, K-12.
The basics? Students and tutors will select a book* based on grade level and interest from the Summer Program book list, and School on Wheels will provide copies. Tutors will also receive engaging lesson suggestions for each week. Ultimately, students will be asked to make connections between the book and their lives, other books, and the world, which will culminate in a final project to be shared.
*Note: Upon registration, you will be asked to enter the book you and your student have chosen. Please consult the Summer Program book list, read the instructions, and have your selection ready before registering.
