The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form determines a student’s eligibility for federal student aid such as federal grants, work-study funds, and loans.

Here are five tips to complete FAFSA with your student:

1. Start early
2. Understand if your student is an independent student or a dependent student
3. Check your email as often as you are able to
4. Fill out the California Dream Act Application instead of FAFSA if you are an undocumented immigrant, U Visa holder, have a valid or expired DACA, or have Temporary Protected Status (TPS)
