School on Wheels Appoints New Board Member Jovana Lara
LOS ANGELES – School on Wheels, a non-profit organization dedicated to tutoring children experiencing homelessness, is happy to announce Jovana Lara is joining its Executive Board of Directors.
Jovana Lara is the weekday anchor for ABC7 Eyewitness News at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.
This year, Jovana celebrates 25 years with ABC7. Since joining the Eyewitness News team, she has earned five Emmy® Awards and an RTNA Golden Mike for exceptional reporting—recognizing both her breaking news coverage and her work as co-host of Vista L.A.
Jovana’s path to the anchor desk is a story of hard work and perseverance. Over the years, she has worked nearly every shift in the newsroom—starting many days with 3 a.m. wake-up calls and full weekends on the job. Her reporting spans an extraordinary range of stories: from major crimes and political coverage to special series and features as well as wildfires, earthquakes, and other natural disasters.
Her passion for storytelling has taken her far beyond Los Angeles—covering earthquakes and immigration in Mexico and Guatemala, the Pope’s visit, and an in-depth series on the quality-of-life issues affecting communities in both Los Angeles and Mexico City.
Born in Cuba, Jovana immigrated to the United States with her family as a young child and grew up in Glendale, California. Spanish was her first language, and she still remembers those early school years—working hard to learn English and find her voice in a new country. She is a proud graduate of Holy Family High School and earned her Bachelor’s degree from Loyola Marymount University, where she has served on the Alumni Board and the Board of Regents. Jovana is a longtime supporter of local charities and non-profit organizations.
