Rylee – Age 7
What is your favorite part of meeting with your tutor each week? I really enjoy learning and find it fun to read stories with my tutor. We find words we like from the book and also look at the pictures. I like reading more now that my tutor makes it fun and easy. I enjoy spending time with her.
What hopes and dreams do you have for the future? I have dreams of becoming a gymnast when I grow up!
How would you describe yourself in three words? Creative, Kind and Positive Attitude
What is your favorite subject? Why do you like that subject? Reading and Writing. When I read stories, I use my imagination to paint a picture and I like looking at the pictures in the stories.
Ganiah – Age 14
What hopes and dreams do you have for the future? Ganiah would love for her family to have their own home.
How would you describe yourself in three words? Playful, forgiving, trusting.
Javier – Age 9
What is your favorite part of meeting with your tutor each week? Having the opportunity to have someone listen to him, and having someone to show off things he enjoys like like his stuffed animals or Halloween costumes.
How would you describe yourself in three words? Intelligent, enthusiastic, persistent
Who inspires you? His tutor, Leila
Valeria – Age 15
What is your favorite part of meeting with your tutor each week? I enjoy how we discuss school and school drama (venting). I also enjoy discussing help related topics, helps me open my mind on the subjects I need to discuss for my homework.
What hopes and dreams do you have for the future? In the future, I aspire to be a tattoo artist. From a very young age, my uncle showed me his childhood/young adulthood drawings, comics, and collectible cads. I grew interested and wanted to do the same; only I would love to make people’s art a reality on their most prized possessions, their bodies. Its beautiful creations remind them of their visions or display for the world to see something. I hope someday someone trusts me with this.
How would you describe yourself in three words? Sweet, Articulate, and Goofy
Who inspires you? From the moment he showed me his comics, collectible cards, and artwork, my Uncle Albert has inspired me to be creative in my own unique way. My passion for music also comes from him. I didn’t have a father growing up, but I got blessed with the world’s greatest uncle, he has shown me the most important thing to me, and that is when he would spend time with me by bike riding, and hanging out.
What advice would you give to students who may be struggling with school? Just because you’re near the finish line doesn’t mean you have to slack off. take a deep breathe, gather your thoughts, Don’t look back you aren’t going that way, Push forward and keep going, remember slow and steady wins the race.
