LOS ANGELES – March 1, 2023 – School on Wheels, a non-profit organization dedicated to tutoring children experiencing homelessness, is happy to announce Lizeth Flores is joining its Executive Board of Directors.

Lizeth Flores serves as the Grants Manager at U.S.VETS, which has a focus on supporting unhoused veterans across the country. Flores is a member of Women of Color (WOC) in Fundraising and Philanthropy and WCAPS (Women of Color Advancing Peace, Security, and Conflict Transformation). Previously, she served in fundraising and communications roles with organizations such as the Hispanic Scholarship Fund and California Latinas for Reproductive Justice; and also worked at a tech startup called Pioneer Infotech. Prior to this work, she advocated for undocumented student rights during her time at UCLA, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in International Development Studies. She has also earned her Master of Public Administration degree from Cornell University.

Flores joined the School on Wheels Board of Directors, first as a Board Fellow in 2022 as part of the Radiant Leadership Fellowship through WOC, and was later elected as a Board Member in 2023.

“We are so excited and honored to have Lizeth join our amazing Board. Her experience and passion are a wonderful addition to School on Wheels, and as a board fellow, in 2022, we saw first-hand her dedication to our mission and are excited she was elected onto our board.”

Josh Fein, President of the Board of Directors

It is fitting that Flores joins the team in March as we celebrate Women’s History Month. Flores brings diverse expertise and insight to School on Wheels. She will be joining a team of executive board members dedicated to enhancing the mission of School on Wheels. The organization has worked diligently to ensure that the Board represents a variety of experts that have the passion and dedication to advocate for their students and volunteers.

“I am so grateful for the opportunity to support the School on Wheels mission as a board member. I have served as a tutor and board fellow, and in each role, I am proud to join in this critical work. The lingering impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the ongoing affordable housing crisis, and growing costs of basic necessities have led to an unconscionable number of families in Southern California without stable housing options. It is an honor to stand alongside School on Wheel’s dedicated volunteers and staff in providing students experiencing homelessness with crucial support for their education.” – Lizeth Flores
