This Halloween, Savannah is not just wearing a costume, but one she made herself.

Savannah, a School on Wheels 12th grader, has always loved hands-on activities and creative projects. Over time, she became especially interested in sewing. This Halloween, she put her creativity and new sewing skills to work, making her very own Ghostface costume with the sewing machine she received through the School on Wheels Scholarship Program

For Savannah, sewing is more than a hobby. It is a relaxing creative outlet that helps her focus on the present. Seeing an idea come to life gives her a sense of pride and accomplishment.

For a young person navigating difficult circumstances, having a positive outlet can make a meaningful difference. Sewing gives Savannah a place to focus her energy and express herself. It gives her an opportunity to learn, create, and experience the satisfaction of making something with her own hands.

Savannah was eligible to apply for our scholarship program and that was her opportunity to ask for her own sewing machine, and she was thrilled when she learned she had won.

“I was so happy to learn that I was chosen to win the scholarship because of my hard work and my consistency with tutoring sessions! Now I have my own sewing machine!”

The scholarship gave Savannah more than a sewing machine. Her mom believes this is a lifelong lesson for Savannah;

“We are sincerely grateful for this scholarship and want to say thank you. The scholarship gave Savannah the opportunity to pursue something she truly loves while also teaching her an important lesson: that opportunities can come through hard work and dedication.”

For students facing difficult circumstances, opportunities to learn, create, and pursue something they love can provide a sense of purpose and joy. It helps them build the confidence and resilience they need to keep moving forward.

As Savannah prepares for her next chapter beyond high school, she carries with her more than the skills she has gained in the classroom. She also has the confidence to explore her interests, the knowledge that hard work can open doors, and a creative outlet that is uniquely her own.

And now, Savannah has a Ghostface costume ready for this Halloween season, one she can proudly say she made herself.

To Savannah, it is not just a costume; it represents something bigger: creativity, confidence, persistence, and the sense of accomplishment through her own hard work.

Happy Halloween, Savannah! School on Wheels is proud of you!
